I created a wonderful looking port and I cant seem to get my sim onto it. its acting like I need stairs or something but its level with the beach.

You will need a port dock. Hold Ctrl Shift C, Type: testingcheatsenabled true (exactly like that) and press enter. Next hold Ctrl Shift C again and type: buydebug (exactly like that) and press enter. Go to the buy objects menu. Click on the chair lamp icon. A lightly shaded box with a blue question mark will be on top. Click on the Question mark, it will open up a new menu. Click on the Misc. Objects Icon (the three filled in dots in a triangle shape) Scroll down the list of Misc. Objects until you get to something that looks kind of like a porch, it will be called "gangway style". Place the 'gangway style" object on a dock. (you can create a dock by using the foundation tools in the build mode. click the foundation tools and select the ones that have pilons (not the solid ones) and build a pier/dock in the water.) Note the water in the port needs to be deep enough to support the "Gangway Stlye" plank. to make sure your water is ready for the gangway you will need to go into the build mode and click on the Terrain tools (the shovel in dirt) click on the icon that shows a horizontal line with an arrow above and below (level terrain) determine which underwater corner is the lowest part of your lot. click and hold at that corner and drag your mouse diagonally up towards your peir/dock. -note- stop dragging before you get to land or it will create a cliff. Now your water should be deep enough to support a house boat gangway in your port. go back to the top of this answer and find the "gangway style" and place it on your pier/dock. you might have to play around with these options to figure out the best way to make your port work. Hope this works out for you.
