This may be totally outdated by now, but I'll go ahead and explain anyway.
Ankylosaurus has a unique type of armor in the game called "Spiked Armor". What this means is that the Ankylosaurus has full protection against most attacks without any harm. However, you can defeat one if, and only if, you have a dinosaur with a piercing attack. Piercing attacks not only ignore any amount of armor when used against any dinosaur, but it is capable of cutting through the Ankylosaur's spiked armor. Every piercing attack in the game will affect the Ankylosaur, only so long as the attack in question has a damage value higher than the strongest Ankylosaur type. How do you know if an attack does piercing damage? It should say in the name of the move.
The Triceratops has a piercing attack as a default attack, "Piercing Toss". Every dinosaur you control in the game has either a default or advanced piercing move that can be utilized to damage an Ankylosaurus. Triceratops is just the introduction of the damage type. Again, the piercing attack must have a damage value higher than the strongest Ankylosaurus type, obviously that doesn't have to be necessary, but it's what I do. If the attack is not even higher than the current type you're fighting, it won't do any damage. "Piercing Toss" is only modified to naturally have a damage value over all Ankylosaurus types. If the damage value isn't high enough, either tweak with the skill's properties, or just use the Triceratops.
Hope this helps, somehow.
