Cannot escape from drowning

I have been stuck on a level for quite a few hours it is driving me crazy. It is where I am tied to a concrete block and pushed into the sea. I press x continuosly but keep drowning. Please help me.

Try to press x in time with the flashing, you can even start pressing before the on screen prompt
