Finding soul gems and beating chaos

With the Soul Gems I can't really help you... I don't know which ones you have. All levels have either 1 or 2, there are a total of 32. If you Pause the game and check your Skylanders Collections, there'll be a frilly border around every character for whom you have their Gem. In the Chapter Select, any level with a Soul Gem (or 2) to find, you won't have the third star. Find a walkthrough for those levels - this site has video walkthroughs, and DarkSpyro.net is excellent for 100% walkthroughs - to find out what you're missing.

As for Kaos... Focus on him. When he's hovering in his chair, you'll see 4 blue lights on the ground. Usually if you walk under him, the dots will turn red, then he'll drop down. Attack his chair (make sure NOT to be under him, of course). Ignore his minions, when you damage his chair enough they'll automatically be defeated anyway.

Once Kaos gives up on the minions, he'll call up his Hydra. Pay attention to which head comes forward, the element of the head will match the element you'll have to dodge, which you saw in previous levels. So the fire head means you'll be dodging the moving flames, the water head means you'll be dodging sharks, etc. No matter which, try to stay near the top to focus on Kaos. Especially for the lasers (I think that's Undead, the skeleton head), the upper corners are safe zones, it's a great time to attack him.

I have a fully-upgraded Stealth Elf (the blades path, not the stealth path, whatever they're called), and I've never noticed the minions, I pull down his health so fast I don't even see the minions, never mind having to pay any attention to them. She's the one I used to manage to defeat Kaos without dying or switching characters. My only real difficulty ends up being the Fire Spell, one misstep usually means at least half a Skylander's health, you have to track the flames quickly to make sure you're somewhere safe. Good luck!
