Chair lift in manor

I have the lever with the "red knob" part on it and i am in the manor, where does this lever go for the chair lift, everytime i try and put it somewhere it says that it can not be used there. thanks in advance for the help.

Not all levers are created equal... if this is the first lever you have found, it goes somewhere else and you will hind another one later. if it is the second one, make sure you put your cursor on the slot closest to you. hope that helps.
