You don't. Sorry. Not with Tree Rex. Once you pick a path, that's it, that's your path.

The only characters who can switch paths are characters who were introduced with Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure, but only the repose, which are known as Series 2 (S2). So if you get the Giants (orange base) version of Stealth Elf or Chop Chop, then she can switch paths. S2 also get an extra upgrade, called a Wow Pow. Both Path Switching and Wow Pows seem to be a gimmick to lure people into buying the re-posed characters, even if they own the originals from the first game.

New characters - the Giants and the new characters like Jet Vac, Sprocket, Fright Rider, etc. - and S1 (green base) characters cannot switch paths.

The only way to "change paths" is to reset them. Reset puts them back to store new, like you just bought them, Level 1, 0 gold, no upgrades, no quests (certain colour varients like Glow In The Dark, Glitter and Flocked start at Level 5 with 2100 gold, resetting them puts them all the way to Level 1, 0 gold). To do this, on your controller press the mirror button to the Play/Start. Some systems call it Back, some call it Select, Wii calls it the [-]. Select Manage from this menu, and Reset is in THAT menu, it's RED to indicate this is an extreme measure.

For characters who CAN path switch, they can just go to Persephone. After they've chosen a path, you can choose "Upgrade" or "Switch Path".
