We are very new to the game, 1 week tom nook wont let us buy anything yet any ideas?

You don't have enough money, your pockets are full or your still doing your jobs for him.

If you want to buy the stuff that is out in the shop and you cant its probably because your doing work for him still, no room in your pockets, or not enough bells (money). If you wanto to buy from the catalog and you cant its probably because you have not emptyed your mail box (so he cant send anything to you) or because you haven't bought or receieved anything yet (so there is nothing for you to buy in the catalog *note: this is very unlikely as you will have receieved a work uniform, furnature in your house from nook, etc.) hope it helps :)
