You have to use the spur thing to speed up your horse, then I just shot him.

How do you spur the horse? i'm using pc platform so i use high profile to run and then let go and press space bar to spur and then press high profile again. the horse goes faster but it can't go it's full speed so i can't catch the last messenger. please tell me exactly how to spur it to it's fastest speed on pc! Thanks!
