Question & Answers
Order of figures
Do you have to buy figures in a certain order to complete certain levels?
Answer from: NiceGuy1
No. You NEED nobody in particular. You could have only one figure, any figure, and finish every level, finishing the game with him/her.
However, there are OPTIONAL parts you would miss. There are areas which require a certain element - Elemental Gates - and certain areas which require a Giant-class character (there's 8, one per element). You get one Giant with the game, no matter what: Tree Rex, the Life Giant. People who got the Portal Master's pack only got him, the Starter Packs for the various consoles also come with Jet Vac (Air) and Cynder (Undead). Instead of Jet Vac, the 3DS pack comes with a variant of Pop Fizz called Punch Pop Fizz (Magic).
For the Elemental Gates, the voice over of Eon will say the element needed. Anybody who approaches the barrier, a barrier appropriate to the element will rise from the ground - bones for Undead, columns of gears for Tech, etc. Also the elemental symbol will be on the ground. If the correct element approaches the gate, the barrier disappears with a flash and anybody can now walk through it.
Giants have a few different things, all marked by the Giant symbol, which is basically Tree Rex's face as a symbol. There are breakable walls which require a Giant, a bomb, or either, walls of logs which must be lifted, giant chains to pull, or Giant Drops to jump down (this one is introduced in Chapter 1 by a computer controlled character Giant, Gigantus).
So, again, you don't NEED to buy anybody. But for 100% completion of all levels, you would need at least one character from each element - 8 in total - including 1 Giant. At minimum, you already have your Giant, Tree Rex, and he can also count as your Life character, leaving 7 other elements. For example, the first level has 3 optional elemental gates: Life, Air and Undead, in that order, so to get 100% completion on Chapter 1 you would need one character from each of those two other elements, Air and Undead. Understand?

One more thing. When in the store, just look for the different Element symbols, each character shows it on the center of the lower label (on three-packs - a better value, BTW, 3 for the price of 2 - the symbol is under each character), centered above their name.
The elements and their symbols (they're also colour-coded):
Life - Three leaves
Undead - A skull
Tech - A gear
Magic - A star
Earth - A mountain
Air - A spiral
Water - A drop of water
Fire - A flame
