Overview

Air combat sims are not everybody's game. Some people play it because of plain amusement and blowing things up in the sky or just out of the gamer inside them.

Ace Combat was one of the most popular titles in the PS2 under this genre. Its been strong since its Playstation days and it seemed to have a promising future in next gen consoles.

Heatseeker, is another game with its own flavor. While most people could think its another AC wannabe, they should have played the game first.

Gameplay

The Difference
----------------------
One of the main features of Heatseeker would be the Impact Cam. Just like a review said, its like 'Burnout in the sky'. Mighty explosions and missile hits are all shown in slow motion, in varying camera angles -taking you deep into the action. You can even fire a missile or subweapon, and even track it until it hits the target. If you're in for some serious fireworks, then this game has that to offer.

The Missions
------------------------
Missions are long and is composed of several objectives. Fortunately, checkpoints are available throughout the mission. You can always start from the last checkpoint if you mess up.

The Hardware
----------------------
Your arsenal includes modern and semi-futuristic fighters, each has their own strengths, weakenesses and weapon loadouts. There is always a weapon pack for every situation. Oh, did I mention that ammo here is infinite?

Graphics

The cutscene graphics are a bit edgy and dull. However, ingame graphics are crisp and better. Nothing special to note, but they could have put an extra effort in the cutscenes.

Sound

The in-game sound effects are good, but the menu background music is just plain boring. At least, put some life into menu or pre-battle briefing.

Value

Replay value decreases over time. Players can play through any of the 3 different modes in the game but after that, levels seems to be repetitive.

Final Thoughts

Heatseeker has its own strengths and weaknesses. Overall gameplay is good but for other air combat sim players, they may find the game tad boring or just simply lacking the grip of providing worthwhile gaming experience.
