Reviews Chromehounds Reviews for Xbox 360
User ReviewsChromehounds is the 2006 offering from developer From Software, the same company responsible for the very popular Armored Core series. No wonder a lot of elements are borrowed from the series; one of the most obvious is the extensive customization of mechs or in this game, called Hounds. he story revolves around a conflict known as Neroimus War, a battle between three superpowers. The missions in the single player campaigns are actually a series of events leading to the great war. Players take on the role of Rafzakael, a mercenary unit without allegiance to any nation. However, the game will force players to provide assistance to a nation, as part of the campaign. The single player campaign is quite weak and boring; simply because the game is focused on online battles. The offline playthrough is meant to train players but unfortunately, the game still suffers a bit of shortcomings to make offline game worthwhile. The campaign is composed of six, seven mission paths, individual paths for each specific Role Type (RT). Role types are basically Hound types that specialize in certain attributes, functions and weapons. One major disappointment from the game is the slow movement speed and hardened maneuverability of the Hounds. Controls are quite easy to get used to, provided that players followed the tutorials when starting a new game. However, the absence of crosshairs and the crappy camera controls gets in the way of the battle. Hound customization is probably the best part of the game. The mech designs, explosions, damage and combat physics were brilliantly rendered and detailed. Great background scores and battle effects further enhances the experience by immersing players in the battle. The game's overall sounds are obviously above average, but a notch shorter to be good. This game is one of the two mech combat simulation games available for the 360. The online multiplayer is probably the saving grace of the game but if the other flaws mentioned above were improved, this game will be more worth than it seems. Chromehounds is not a slow-mo Armored Core rip-off. With good strengths in most categories, this isn't a bad title at all. Xbox360 mech aficionados will certainly appreciate the game for its free, clan-based online experience and customization. Reviewed by: vhayste | Views: 13 Chromehounds Xbox 360 Items
