Reviews Tales Of Vesperia Reviews for Xbox 360
Saving the world one day at a timeThe latest release from the very successful Tales series, this JRPG for the Xbox 360 has become part of the console's handful yet worthwhile role-playing games in its library. Tales of Vesperia tells the story of a world where monsters thrive the planet and humans need to rely on magical ancient relics called Blastia to protect them from the threats of monsters and to help them with their everyday lives. Yuri Lowell, an ex-imperial knight that has lived in the capital's slums, known as the Lower Quarter. After the Quarter's Aqua Blastia was stolen by a mage hired by the people to fix it, Yuri has set out on his own personal investigation to nab the thief. A series of unexpected events lead her to meet the princess, Estelle and eventually they were forced to set out a journey that spanned the whole world. More and more events has occurred and they have acquired the acquaintance of several comrades, they have set out in an adventure that will place the fate of the world in their hands. Tales of Vesperia offers a very strategic battle system, similar to its PS2 predecessor, Tales of the Abyss. Players can take control of one of the characters while the others will act on their own, depending on the set strategy. Attacking, guarding and activating special attacks can be triggered from pre-defined controller assignments. Players can freely move or switch between characters. Players can also arrange the formation of the party and even activate/deactive active skills and artes. Like the previous Tales titles, players can cook several dishes after the battle or from the main menu. Different dishes have different effects. Some recover HP and TP while the others temporarily boost your character stats until the next battle. There are no random battles in Vesperia. Enemy symbols will appear instead, which players can engage at will or avoid. The game also features several sidequests and secrets for deeper gameplay and longer play time. Weather and the time of the day changes regularly in the world of ToV. These weather changes affect the type of monsters that will appear in the field. Lastly is the grade system. Players will be rewarded with grades after each battle. These can be traded at the Grade Shop which will be available after completing the game. Here, players can buy bonus and extra stuff that will help them when starting a new game. Cel-shaded graphics work at its best. Though there are areas that lack detail (especially the rough-drawn skits), the game's visual quality is great. The ability to change costumes and appearances based on the weapons and titles equipped is noticeable and appealing. The voice acting is superb and give life to the characters. However, the background scores are somewhat limited and repetitive; if not, its not that noticeable at all. The sound effects are bleak and simple. The game's variety of extras and the grade system makes it a worthwhile game, good enough for 2-3 more playthroughs. To get all the achievements, players need to undergo through several playthroughs anyway. Tales of Vesperia is a strong RPG title that offers tons of goodies and extras. The story is great, the gameplay and characters even better. Any RPG fan should have this game. Reviewed by: vhayste | Views: 17 Tales Of Vesperia Xbox 360 Items
