Overlord News
Next-generation gaming in a twisted fantasy world where players have the choice to be evil... or really evil!

Codemasters today announces an original next-generation title with the signing of Overlord from developer Triumph Studios, whose pedigree includes the award-winning strategy series Age of Wonders.

Overlord is a groundbreaking action adventure, set in a seriously warped fantasy world. Scheduled for a summer 2007 release, Overlord will launch for PC and as a console exclusive for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

Controlling a mysterious figure that has inherited the legacy of the evil, long-dead Overlord, the player emerges, near death, from the ruins of the old Overlord’s Dark Tower. Only the player’s actions will determine if they will rise to become the new all-powerful Overlord; it’s all down to how much of a bad ass they want to be in order to succeed… evil or really evil! Played out with plenty of black humour and dark irony, the game will immerse players in twisted parodies of classic fantasy scenarios and characters.

Overlord’s key innovation is the introduction of an array of impish creatures – the Minions. They believe you are the old Overlord reborn and will use their unique skills to fetch, fight and die for you. Throughout the game players will actively control a horde of these gremlin-like critters and they’ll follow your every instruction no matter how despotic or, for the Minions, life threatening it is.

Says Lennart Sas, Director at Triumph Studios:
“Overlord offers a wealth of freedom and allows players to experience classic fantasy like never before. Working with the minions, players can loot and pillage their way through the game’s world or maybe resist the temptations of evil. In Overlord, player choices truly shape the world.”

Says Barry Jafrato, Senior VP of Brand for Codemasters:
“Overlord comes loaded with innovative and compelling game mechanics wrapped in a scenario that’s played out with plenty of black humour. We’re delighted to be working with Triumph on the title, bringing something fresh and original to next-generation gamers.”

With more details on this unique gaming property to be revealed through the course of its development, Codemasters will publish Overlord for Xbox 360 and PC in summer 2007.

Prepare to be tempted, mesmerised and thrilled exploring the possibilities of being evil or really evil in Overlord, coming summer 2007

Gamers will discover how corruptible they are in Overlord, the forthcoming twisted fantasy action adventure where players can be evil (or really evil). Now in development at Triumph Studios, Codemasters will publish Overlord in summer 2007 for PC and the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

In the game’s seriously warped fantasy world, players will become the Overlord and get first-hand experience of how “absolute power corrupts absolutely". You could be a regular run-of-the-mill Overlord. However, with incredible power at your disposal and a team of evil-minded impish critters, the Minions, on hand to do your bidding, how will you resist the temptation to be wonderfully despotic?!

The Overlord has the power of concentrated badness right from the start and you’ll know how much more of a total bad-ass you’re becoming as the game tracks your ‘corruption’ throughout.

How corrupt you become depends on how you handle any given situation, your actions and how their consequences impact the game world. For example, if you and your minion horde dispose of a bunch of particularly nasty, violent Halflings that have overrun a once-peaceful village, the village’s original peasant occupants will herald you as their liberator. Now each time you pass through, the peasants will welcome you as their new lord and protector, cheering your arrival and giving you offerings.

However, as an Overlord, it’s worth seeing what more can be obtained from the peasants’ gratitude. If you exert some proper feudal repression, they’ll tremble and fall to their knees when you’re in town. If you become truly mean, the poor peasants will resort to cowering in your presence, pray for their lives and even offer up their daughters in order to appease you…

“In Overlord you’ll be able to do some pretty wicked stuff, however everything is played out with this twisted fantasy humor, as the game’s visuals illustrate” says Lennart Sas, Director at Triumph Studios. “Our goal is not to shock with realistic blood and gore, but to create an entertaining world where people can explore what it’s like to have absolute power but in an amusingly gross way, not sick & grotesque.”

On the flip side to all this nastiness, one of the Achievements players can aim for in the game is finishing 100% Uncorrupted. To be an Overlord of purity requires not killing any peasants, not harvesting souls from living creatures, not betraying your mistress and not exterminating the occasional fantasy race. Now that’s tough!

Go on, get ready to explore your more despotic side and perfect your evil laugh with Overlord, coming summer 2007 for PC and the Xbox 360™. Interesting in becoming a total bad ass? Register your interest online now at www.codemasters.com/overlord for future exclusive updates.
