Hints & Secrets

Unlocking fast travel and free fast travel

There are three types of fast travel (and automatic horse travel) in Red Dead Redemption 2. After completing Chapter 2: "Money Lending And Other Sins" (given by Strauss), you will unlock the ledger. You can then put money in the tithing box and upgrade the camp. Buy the two camp upgrades in the lodging category: "First Things First" ($220) and "Next In Line" ($325). The second upgrade unlocks a fast travel map behind Arthur's tent. However, this fast travel is only one-way. It can only be used to reach discovered towns, and there is no way to fast travel back to camp. There is a hidden feature the game does not make known. Simply place a waypoint marker anywhere on the map, then start riding on the road and hold the Touchpad to make your horse automatically run to the marked location. You can then release the button and wait while you travel to the marked location. Note: Predators and bandits can still hurt you along the way -- so keep an eye open. There is also fast travel from train stations and stagecoaches for $5 to $15, but you can only travel between towns and not to your own camp. You can use this option to reach the town closest to your camp, and then ride the rest of the way.

All mini-game locations

There are four mini-games: Blackjack, Dominoes, Five Finger Fillet, and Poker. You only need to start playing all of them for a moment to get the "Hobby Horse" trophy. You do not need to win, or even finish the match. After sitting down for a game, you can simply stand up again and leave. You can keep track of this at the pause menu under "Progress" - "Total Completion" - "Table Games". The mini-games can be found at the following locations:

  • Blackjack: Found in Rhodes (Saloon)
  • Dominoes: Found in Saint Denis (Park)
  • Five Finger Fillet: Found in Strawberry
  • Poker: Found in Saint Denis (Saloon)

All grave locations

Search the indicated locations to find all nine graves in RDR2 and get the "Paying Respects" trophy. Graves are a type of collectible needed to reach 100% completion. They only spawn after completing the story. So you must play through the story first before you can do this.

All Rock Carving locations

Go to the indicated locations to find all ten Rock Carvings in Red Dead Redemption 2. Rock Carvings are part of the "Geology For Beginners" Stranger side mission. They are also a collectible type needed for reaching 100% completion. It is important to complete this side mission for it to add towards your game completion. Just finding the Rock Carvings does not add any game completion -- only completing the mission does.

All gold medals list

The following video shows the complete Red Dead Redemption 2 gold medals list requirements for every story mission from the in-game mission log. There are 104 total missions (each has a gold medal). Unlock 70 of the 104 gold medals to get the "Gold Rush" trophy. The remaining 34 are not needed for anything. Thus, you can select the ones that are easiest for you. In order to get a gold medal, you must complete all requirements in the same run. All missions can be replayed from the mission log (pause menu - Progress - Story). The game does not display the requirements on the first playthrough, but you can unlock the medals if you know the requirements, which is why the video comes in handy. You can save yourself a lot of time on replays and get them completed during your first playthrough.

Easy "Artificial Intelligence" Achievement Guide

Successfully complete the "A Bright Bouncing Boy" Stranger mission questline given by Marco Dragic in Saint Denis to get the "Artificial Intelligence" trophy. To complete it, do the following steps:

  • Step 1: Go to the starting location and complete Marco's first mission -- "A Bright Bouncing Boy - I". Note: You must have reached Chapter 4, and it is only available during the day.
  • Step 2: Sleep until night for Marco's next mission to appear in the top-right corner of the map -- "A Bright Bouncing Boy - II". This is only available at night. If it does not spawn, sleep a few more nights and make sure you got that part of the map uncovered. You will find a building with a large tower. The front door is closed, but you can go through the backdoor and meet Marco Dragic inside. You then have to help him put three rods in the ground to gather electricity from lightning.
  • Step 3: After two days, return to Marco Dragic's lab from the previous quest. He will be dead on the floor, and you will get the trophy, as well as his electric lantern as a reward. You can make a camp using the item wheel and sleep to advance time. After sleeping twice, you must wait five minutes (real time) before you can sleep again.

Easy "Locked And Loaded" Achievement Guide

Go to any gunsmith (marked on map in towns), like the one in Valentine. Speak to the gunsmith. Select any weapon and choose the "Components" option. Change every component to get the "Locked And Loaded" trophy. For example, the basic Double-Action Revolver has the following four components: Grip, Barrel Length, Barrel Rifling, and Iron Sights. It costs a few dollars to change these, but you can create a manual save before doing this and reload it afterwards to get your money back.

Easy Money Guide

Money can be quite hard to come by in the early stages of Red Dead Redemption 2. The most reliable method is to loot any enemy you kill and sell their belongings or donate it to your camp. The items are often far more valuable than the actual cash you'll find on the bodies.

Get Money from Hunting Animals. Selling animal meat and skin is a viable source of income in Red Dead Redemption 2. Traders will pay good money for high quality meat and pelt so make sure to always get a clean kill.

Loot Crafting Materials from Animals. Crafting materials like pelts can be taken from animals and turned into clothing or other items. Some crafting materials are exclusive to certain animals however.

Just like hunting, fishing can be a good source of income. Traders around the map will pay well for fresh fish and materials.

At almost any point in Red Dead Redemption 2, you can roll up on someone as the outlaw that you are and rob them. No questions asked. They don't need to be a special NPC or a shopkeeper, you can just rob anyone on the street that's a stranger. Depending on who they are, they might draw their weapon to fight back, but it's a risk you can take.

Hunting can be a lot of work though — and it's dangerous. For a change of pace, you can stop by camp or various saloons in town to do things like play Poker (the Texas Hold'em variety of course,) or Dominoes, or even Five Finger Fillet if you're confident in your rhythm and timing skills. You need to be consistently good or consistently lucky to make much money, but they're fun distractions regardless.

The easiest way to make money in the early game in Red Dead Redemption 2 is to complete story missions and side missions. In the initials stages of the game, this will be your best source of cold, hard cash.

Beginners Guide

To keep your horse happy and healthy, and retain a strong bond, you will need to keep it fed and clean. A horse's health and stamina cores are affected when it gets hungry or dirty - meaning it'll tire faster and withstand less damage. You will see a warning when your horse starts to become hungry or dirty. Hold L1 or LB and navigate to the horse item menu to select and use food items or the horse brush.

Loot Crafting Materials from Animals. Crafting materials like pelts can be taken from animals and turned into clothing or other items. Some crafting materials are exclusive to certain animals however.

Feed Your Camp with the Meat. Meat from animals will help feed your camp for a day. Keep the bellies of your companions happy with a good meat in the stew pot.

Track Animals by Their Footprints/Blood. Animals will leave footprints across the terrain that you can follow to get to their location. If you've already wounded the animal, you can also follow the blood to get your kill.

Fresher Meat Means More Pay. It's best to take kills back to shops and traders as quickly as possible as the meat will rot with time. Fresher meat will always be paid more by traders so bringing in a fresh kill is always better.

Just like hunting, fishing can be a good source of income. Traders around the map will pay well for fresh fish and materials.

You can get useful materials from the different fish you can find. These materials can be used for crafting different items, like clothing.

Playthrough Strategy Tips

  • Tip 1: If you add a waypoint to where you want to go, change to cinematic view and your horse will auto drive you to the location.
  • Tip 2: Hold the loot button and keep holding it to continue to search everything in the area or loot all the bodies as you pass over them.
  • Tip 3: Tap left on the d-pad to open the log during a mission, then click on the mission, then press right a few times to see a history of all dialogue since the start of the mission, as well as any tooltip info or button tutorials that you may have missed. Downside is, this won't work between missions (like in camp), but you can record a clip and go back to watch it if there's something else you missed in those circumstances.
  • Tip 4: You can replay missions from the log as well, and it will show you the checklist of things you need to do in order to get a better medal.
  • Tip 5: The help section in the pause menu is extensive. Spend 10 minutes to read up everything early on — from riding to combat to activities to general tips, there's plenty of things you might have missed there.
  • Tip 6: Prioritize upgrading Dutch's tent in the camp first (it will bring in more contributions from other gang members so doing it early will benefit you most). It will also mean that you can focus on upgrading your own area next, which is how you'll unlock fast travel to areas you've already discovered.
  • Tip 7: Use eagle-eye (even indoors) by clicking in both left and right thumbsticks and you'll be able to see animal tracks, which way the wind is blowing (you can see your smell blowing off of you) — this will help you hunt AND find everything you can loot inside a building.
  • Tip 8: Whistle or use the prompt to make animals pop their heads up for a clean shot.
  • Tip 9: Down on the d-pad will aim down scope in first person mode.
  • Tip 10: Tap LB/L1 once to unholster your weapon, and tap it again to holster it. Double tap it to spin it around in a flourish before bolstering. Pressing LT/L2 is for when you want to quick draw on someone you're definitely going to shoot. Because there are new contextual actions for just threatening people by pointing your gun, or de-escalating by putting it away, these have separate buttons/functions now.
  • Tip 11: ALWAYS be pressing L3 while riding a horse — you'll see the horse+ icon on the right as you do it, showing that you're actively bonding with the horse, which allows you to bond twice as fast as riding helps that bond as well. This also soothes them when predators are nearby.
  • Tip 12: You can press up on the d-pad with your weapon out to fire a warning shot up in the air.
  • Tip 13: HOLD B/Circle while running to tackle someone. Equip your knife from the weapon wheel first and you'll stab them in the neck while you do it. Have the lasso out for an immediate hogtie.
  • Tip 14: Put your bandana on before committing a crime, as well as a disguise — then when out of sight (but while WANTED is still on the screen), change clothes (from your horse's inventory) and take the bandanna/disguise/mask off. Changing your facial hair and hairstyle in addition to your clothes will also make the description of the suspect they're looking for harder to identify.
  • Tip 15: Learn how to play poker in camp (where blinds are only a couple cents and you might only lose a few dollars if you're garbage — do this before playing for real cash out in the world).
  • Tip 16: You can only get a hair cut or facial hair style if you have enough hair for it. You can grow hair faster by buying hair tonics.
  • Tip 17: Tapping and HOLDING buttons can have different actions. HOLDING the hamburger button will open the menu.
  • Tip 18: Manual save often and use all the slots in case you want/need to return to a specific earlier part in the game for any reason.
  • Tip 19: You can change the controls for first/third person and shooting/riding in the options.
  • Tip 20: You can change it so you just tap the run button once to start running as long as you're also pointing in a direction with the analogue stick (also in the options).
  • Tip 21: You can change how long you have to keep a button pressed in the options.
  • Tip 22: You can swap tapping the run button for clicking the left thumbstick (traditional FPS controls) in the same menu.
  • Tip 23: While in first person, you can more easily navigate tricky areas, and running speed is tied to how hard you push the analogue stick forward.
  • Tip 24: Bring your horse to stables to let them rest up better than just being hitched outside.
  • Tip 25: You can gain stamina back faster while crouched.

Infinite money

To get an unlimited number of gold bars, simply complete the following steps:

  • 1. Create a manual save (Pause Menu, Story, Save Game) so you can return to a save file without the exploit, if desired. Also, disable autosaves to make this easier (Pause Menu, Settings, General, Autosave Off).
  • 2. Go to "Limpany" a burned-down village just slightly northwest of Flatneck Station.
  • 3. Open the lockbox inside the burned-down Sheriff building, but do not loot anything from it. There must be a gold bar and letter inside. If you do not see the letter, it is because you already bought the "Special Horse Stimulant Pamphlet" from a Fence, and this exploit will not work.
  • 4. Look at the gold so it shows the words "Gold Bar" in bottom right corner. It is easier in first-person view. While looking at the gold bar, save the game, exit the game through the menu, then select "Resume Story" at the title screen (Pause Menu - Story - Save Game - Click Back - Story - Exit - Title Screen - Story).
  • 5. You will spawn somewhere nearby. Return to the box, and the letter should be gone. There will now be unlimited gold bars in the box. Collect as many as you can carry (30 maximum, each is worth $500 = $15,000 total).
  • 6. Sell the 30 gold bars at a Fence for $15,000. For example, at Emerald Ranch (nearest one).

Repeat steps 3-6 as many times as desired to get an unlimited amount of money. $15,000 is enough to last a full playthrough though. After completing the story, you get an additional $20,000, which is more money than you will ever need. So doing this once should suffice. If you wish to repeat the process, make sure you close and reopen the lockbox to make the letter respawn. Then, aim at the gold bar again, save the game manually, quit out to title screen, continue, ride back to lockbox, and pick up 30 gold bars again. Note: This glitch was performed on an unpatched version of the game. It will probably eventually get patched. To avoid not being able to use this exploit, either do not install new patches before using this exploit or delete the patches. You can avoid patches being installed by disconnecting from the internet until you are ready for the game to install new patches.

Jack Hall Gang treasure map hunt location and solution

This treasure hunt is part of the "All That Glitters" Stranger mission in RDR2. It counts towards the "Treasure Hunter" collectible task under the 100% checklist. The map is bought from Maximo after accepting his "All That Glitters" quest. If you already robbed and killed him, you can buy it from any fence vendor. You must then find three treasure locations. The first two are actually just maps that lead you to the next clue. The third location is the final treasure consisting of two gold bars. These can be sold at a fence vendor for $1,000. This is a good way to quickly make money early in the game (starting in Chapter 2).

All Dinosaur Bone locations

Search the indicated locations to find all 30 Dinosaur Bones in RDR2. Dinosaur Bone are a type of collectible needed to reach 100% completion and are required to complete the "A Test Of Faith" Stranger mission for Deborah MacGuiness. None of them are missable. However, eight are found in the New Austin area, where bounty hunters will instantly kill you until you have completed the story. So you must first complete the game to collect all of them. Always Click Left Analog-stick + Right Analog-stick when near them with eagle eye to highlight the Dinosaur Bones.

All Dreamcatcher locations

Search the indicated locations to find all 20 Dreamcatcher in RDR2. Dreamcatchers are a type of collectible that hang in trees. They can be collected at any time after reaching Chapter 2. None of them are missable. Approach the tree and hold Y to investigate the Dreamcatcher. Click Left Analog-stick + Right Analog-stick to highlight them in yellow so they are easier to see. You can view how many Dreamcatchers you found by going to the pause menu and navigating to "Progress" - "Total Completion" - "Dreamcatchers". They add 2% to your total game completion. Collect all Dreamcatchers to get the Ancient Arrowhead perk from the cave behind the waterfall at Elysian Pool. It makes your stamina last twice as long when using the bow.

Easy "The Real Deal" Achievement or Trophy Guide

You have to play Series games for this achievement. The easiest way to get MVP's is to go to the Takeover Series from Red Dead Online main menu or from player menu while in free roam (by Pressing L and scrolling down to Quick Join)

Play this until you get to the Hostile Territories. Now the trick to getting the MVP in this is just to go into your teams captured territory and stay safe there as long as possible, and if you die just go to back to nearest captured territory back as soon as you can!

Died couple of times but still got the MVP by going back fast so its not game over if you die.

The way this works is that you will get points in the background for defending the captured territory even if there isnt enemies at the site.

Easy "Notorious" Achievement or Trophy Guide

Before you do anything do this:

How to get extra 20XP from every kill

-Start the game
-Go to Story Tab and press Z to open up options

-Go to Controls->Controller

-Turn Lock-On Mode (On-Foot) to Free Aim
-Turn Lock-On Mode (Mount / Vehicle) to Free Aim

Now everytime you kill someone you will get additional 20XP

Now the best way to get XP:

How to earn XP fast after you have gathered 15 Gold Bars
Collecting collectibles and selling the finished sets to Madam Nazar is currently the fastest way to get XP and you will get more XP for picking up collectibles everytime you level up your collector role.

Buy the collectors bag for 15 Gold Bars from Madam Nazar to get the collectors role. (she changes position everyday but she is marked on the github map)

Now its the time to go collecting

The github map shows the locations and and the tools you need to gather each collectible. Some collectibles can be just picked up, for some you will just need the Pennington Fiel Shovel (costs 350$) but alot of them require you to buy the Metal Detector too(Costs 700$) Both tools are sold by Madam Nazar.

Gathering Gold For the Collectors Bag, money for the shovel, and getting decent XP at the same time:

Double reward from Free-Roam missions
You will get double the reward (Gold, money and XP) from every Free-Roam mission if you wait till the time goes to 30sec before completing the mission.

The easiest to cheese missions are given by the guys at the railway stations. They usually give you caravan or delivery missions.
Play the mission normally but before you deliver the caravan / mail / moneybag, stop and wait till the timer is in 30 sec and then you finish the mission.

If you get very close to the delivery spot when doing a caravan mission, you will be invisible to other players without finishing the mission prematurely so you an idle in peace.

If the start time is 10min and you finish it after the time is 30sec you will get 0.16G, 12$ and 200-250XP

If the start time is 20min and you finish it after the time is 30sec you will get 0.32G, 25$ and 300-450XP

Easy "Collector's Item" Achievement or Trophy Guide

In order to get this achievement you will need to complete one of the collectable strands. This meens either finishing a collection by venturing into the world. But the most easy way to do this is to complete all premium cigarettes card sets. this can be accomplished by going to the general store and buy premium cigarettes, discard those in your inventory en buy more (just repeat). this will cost about 1000 dollar (wich count for the shopping achievement also (spend 5000dollar))

Best moment is to complete this after you completed the storyline (you will now have the cash, and already collected some cards)

Walk in and out of the general store every 20buys or so as it seems to drop more cards you dont own if you enter a store.

Preface, first battle and Ranch Secrets

This solution is based on the main missions of RDR2. The numerous side missions, special events and locations that you can discover while roaming the huge game world are accordingly largely disregarded. If you look for available missions on your map, the missions highlighted in yellow are the ones that you have to complete for the main story.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is located 12 years before the 2010 Red Dead Redemption . It tells the story of the "Van der Linde" gang, to which John Marston (protagonist of the first game) also belonged. This, still as a young man in his twenties, initially appears as a secondary character before he gets a bigger focus. The protagonist of RDR2 is now Arthur Morgen, the right-hand man of gang leader Dutch Van der Linde.

In the game you have the opportunity to make moral decisions which, together with your general behavior, make up crucial elements of the game. Of course, you have to make these decisions yourself, depending on what suits you best for your game. We played Red Dead Redemption 2 on a conventional PlayStation 4.

Intro
A planned raid in Blackwater went dramatically wrong and the "Van der Linde" gang is now on the run. They seek protection from their pursuers, the agents of the historic Pinkerton detective agency, in the mountains of the Grizzlies, which are criss-crossed by snow and ice . Several gang members died or disappeared as a result of the failed coup.

The Van der Linde gang doesn't fight their way through a hail of bullets, but through a blizzard. The Van der Linde gang doesn't fight their way through a hail of bullets, but through a blizzard.

There is a devastating blizzard and with the gang now in need of a safe shelter, Dutch has sent three of his men to ride ahead, each to look for a safe haven. One of these scouts is the protagonist Arthur Morgan , who returns to the gang and shows them a way to a cluster of abandoned mining huts.

Since the other two scouts, John Marston and Micah Bell have not yet returned, Dutch and Arthur decide to look for them despite the snow storm, while the rest of the gang try to make the abandoned huts a little more homely and the camp crack open.

In the snow, the two finally meet Micah, who doesn't know where John is, but has found a small ranch in a valley that seems to be wild. Due to the distress the gang is in, Dutch decides to ride with Arthur and Micah to the house and look for help there.

Outlaws from the west
Follow Dutch through the storm to the ranch Micah discovered. You will get to know some aspects of the extensive controls, including the conversation system, which is explained to you through appropriate displays on the screen.

Optional goals for a gold scoring:

  • Complete the mission with an accuracy of at least 80 percent.
  • Take no damage in the shootout.
  • Loot 6 or more items from the Eagle Ranch.

After a short ride you will now reach the ranch, which consists of a house, a stable, a shed and other small sheds. Since Dutch first wants to proceed carefully, Arthur should hide in the shed on the left . This is covered, but the walls are only drawn up chest high. Look for cover behind the half-height wall to the house by pressing R1 / RB and wait.

A first battle
Dutch starts a conversation with a very unfriendly looking man who turns him down. Meanwhile, Micah discovers a body outside , which makes it clear that something is wrong here. It turns out that the men in the house are members of the O'Driscolls. This is a gang that Dutch has a blood feud with.

Stay in your hiding place and shoot down all O'Driscolls, which are indicated by your crosshairs in red and thus marked as enemies. Since you are in cover, you should survive this battle without being damaged.

As soon as you have eliminated all enemies, you should enter the house and search. Inside you can find some useful objects like food and valuables . You can collect these by standing in front of them and pressing the pick-up command (square for PS4 and X for Xbox One). You should search the house thoroughly and take anything that isn't nailed down.

A ranch full of surprises
Then you should search the stable outside. To do this, leave the house and turn left. Inside, another O'Drsicoll pounces on you. A fist fight ensues , which you can easily decide for yourself if you follow the instructions on the screen. By then pounding the attacker on something, he will tell you something about a planned train robbery.

You can now decide whether to strangle the attacker or spare. However, if you hit him over and over again, he will die too. Collect your hat and now take the horse that is in the barn. This horse will be your mount in the game for a while.

Now returns to the house. There Micah met the wife of the former ranch owner (the dead person in front of the house), Mrs. Sadie Adler . The house is now going up in flames and Dutch can calm Mrs. Adler down, whereupon you take her to your camp .

Easy "Grin and Bear it" Achievement or Trophy Guide

When you find a bear you have to let him attack you and knock you on the ground. While he is scratching and biting you, spam F to break free. After you stab him with your knife, there is an opportunity to shoot him (shotgun is the most effective option). You have to kill the bear while you are still on the ground, otherwise it's not going to count! If you die before you can kill it, just load the quick save. It usually quick saves right before the attack.
