Question & Answers

Floppy disc 3 number combination?

Where is the meaning on how to come up with the numbers? I've looked online and watched all the videos and I still don't know where they are getting the numbers from and how to come up with them all in that combination. I'm tired of trying what videos show to do. Anyone have an easy answer?

This puzzle made sense to me only because I've played the board game Mastermind - if you know that game, this puzzle runs on the same principle. The lights tell you how many boxes in that row/column have the correct number in them. They only tell you how many, not which position is correct. So without changing any numbers, you press the enter button for your first guess. Since all the numbers are still 0, any lights you get mean that the row/column will have a 0 in it. For instance: row 1 and column 2 each have 1 light after your first guess. So row 1, column 2 is a 0. You change all eight other boxes to be 1's and hit enter for your second guess. You have to pay attention to see which lights newly come on, because since you already have the 0 correct, those lights should stay on to say that it's still correct.

Whatever 1's are at the intersection of the new lights are correct and should stay a 1, and all the other 1's you should change to 2's. Continue increasing the numbers and guessing until all lights come on. The trickiest part is when you change something that was right to the wrong number, which causes the lights to turn off. Honestly I would just leave the puzzle and come back. It will be a totally new answer to find, but some of them are harder to solve than others.
