What do I do to get the bronze top hat? Then what do I do to get the silver top hat? Last what do I do to get the gold top hat?

They're related, and they are specific to EACH Skylander (i.e. if you earn the Bronze Top Hat with Tree Rex, you have to earn it again for Spyro, again for Jet Vac, etc).

Each character has 9 Quests, you probably see a thing pop up every now and then like "Chow Hound 30/50". There are 6 that every Skylander has, including defeating 1000 enemies, eating 50 pieces of food, and getting bonus Elemental damage. Then, each class has 2 more, like Air Skylanders have to pick up mid-air money and defeat enemies while in mid-air (falling or bouncing). Lastly, each Skylander has one specific to them. Stealth Elf has to regain health while stealthy, Zook has to absorb damage using his foliage barriers.

Once you've completed any 3 of these quests with a character, you get the Bronze Top Hat available. 6 for Silver, all 9 for the Gold. It doesn't matter WHICH ones you complete for Bronze and Silver, just that there are 3 and 6, respectively.

To check what these are, and your progress with them, access the character menu (the minus [-] button for the Wii) - the same place you go to change hats - and choose Quests instead of Hats. It first shows you how many Quests to complete to get to the next Top Hat/Level. It says on the bottom what button to continue, I think it's A. Then you can check all 9 Quests. Ones with Gold icons are ones you've completed.
