No gold medal??

Raf section 2, mission 2 (bomb tobruk) have been unable to get gold medal or beyond about 7000 points. i take out the aa defenses, and shoot down all fighters that come (2 at a time). set to hard difficulty, using special project jet. i don't get it. my totals are about 21 planes and 6 ground targets. interesting side-note to this level and a few others: when you repeat the level, you get a different mix of enemy aircraft positions and numbers.

Probably you need to use a normal fighter not a special project jet

Destroy ALL enemies to get the most points. There may be some hidden ground units("hidden" meaning with no arrow above them) placed on the battlefield. If you appear to be receiving damage for no apparent reason, search around that area! Secondly, the rounds fired, bombs dropped, and missiles launched also tally up into your score for the mission. Third, you might want to try a different plane. I assume that the damage you take can go into your score, so you might want to try a plane with more armor. Namely, the Bomber or the Fighter- Bomber. Good luck! P.S. Keep it on Hard Mode! Chances are low that you will get Gold on Normal or Easy.

According to the instruction book you need 7,500 points to earn a gold medal. I just completed the mission on the hard level using the fighter-bomber. Final numbers. 21 planes, 6 ground targets, 422 rounds and 34 bombs for a total score of 6750. Note: On the normal level you have 8 ground targets.
